Welcome to Family Root Sleuth- My adventures while digging deeper into my family history
When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves. -Russel M. Nelson
I began researching my family tree after a fire destroyed my Maternal Grandparent’s house in December 1994. I stated asking questions about people as I was removing singed pictures from photo albums. My grandmother, mother and aunt started telling me the stories of my ancestors that were unknown to me. Most of my maternal side has been in the same county in Pennsylvania since pre-Revolutionary times. I’ve visited many cemeteries and courthouses gathering information which was great research training. I used those skills that I developed and started researching my paternal line. Unlike my maternal line who stayed in one place; my paternal line has roots in England, Canada and all along the Eastern Coast of the US.
Since I joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in April 2019, I’ve been attending genealogy conferences, lectures, webinars etc. I’ve found myself frantically writing down all of the websites and places to research in my notebook. Unfortunately, that wonderful information has a habit of staying in my notebook. Thus, the inspiration for Family Root Sleuth was born. I’ll be blogging on the events that I attend and adding the links/sources to search to share with my friends and family.
Happy Sleuthing
